Answer Key & Solution Approach
Step 0 — Decode the table (recover the real figures)
Recover the real figures: Novels = (20% column) × 5, Magazines = (⅓ column) × 3, and Comics from the Novels : Comics ratio.
- W: Novels = 140×5 = 700; ratio 7:5 → Comics = 700×5/7 = 500; total 1500 → Magazines = 1500−700−500 = 300.
- X: Novels = 120×5 = 600; Magazines = 150×3 = 450; Note 2 (2:1) → Comics = 600 ÷ 2 = 300.
- Y: Magazines = 180×3 = 540; Novels = 2 × Comics (Note 3) — pinned in Q3.
- Z: Novels = 160×5 = 800; Magazines = 140×3 = 420; ratio 8:5 → Comics = 800×5/8 = 500.
Store X: Magazines + Comics = 450 + 300 = 750; Novels = 600. Percentage more = (750 − 600) ÷ 600 × 100 = 25%.
Comics: X = 300, Z = 500. Ratio = 300 : 500 = 3 : 5.
Average of Magazines & Comics for Y = 400 → their sum = 800 → Comics = 800 − 540 = 260. By Note 3, Novels = 2×260 = 520. Required average of Novels & Magazines = (520 + 540) ÷ 2 = 530.
Store W: average of Comics & Novels = (500 + 700) ÷ 2 = 600. E-books = 150% × 600 = 900. Difference from Magazines (300) = 900 − 300 = 600.
Store W: Novels + Magazines = 700 + 300 = 1000. Magazines of Z = 420. Difference = 1000 − 420 = 580.
